INCONCEPT, a concept store with the subtitle live magazine. Here you’ll find everything what you normally see in a magazine, but then in 3D and completely touchable!
Where you used to roam around between the books at De Slegte, you can now spend quite some time at this fine concept store; there is so much to see! The initiator of INCONCEPT is the young Evana Kuik (who you might know as vlogger at LINDA.), who is also the designer of the male fashion brand EVAN Menswear, she imagined this concept to be the ‘laboratory’ for young, entrepreneurial creatives that INCONCEPT is now.
INCONCEPT is located in a monumental building at the Coolsingel where bookstore De Slegte used to be. The property had been empty for a while, which is such a waste of a beautiful space like this. That’s why this was the perfect location to open a pop-up store two years ago. The INCONCEPT live magazine is divided over three floors that were newly decorated while still keeping some of the old elements.
The huge (yes, it’s really huge!) building of 1100 m2 offers a platform for many young designers and start-ups. And, as said before; the concept is a little like a 3D version of a magazine. Designers, start-ups, webshops and labels that are looking for a physical selling platform and/ or studio or office are welcome here. This place can certainly be called unique in the area of design, fashion and art, especially here in Rotterdam. Suplemented with beauty, food and drinks. Shopping becomes an adventure again, an inspiring experience.
In the shopping area you find a succession of all kinds of products like designer furniture from the Danish Sofacompany, jewelry from the Rotterdam designer Lydia Bremer, a vintage collection by Designer Sale Zero 10 and E-bikes from Spiked Cycles. Of course Evana’s own label EVAN Menswear also has a nice spot in the shop. There is a waterbar in the shop where you’ll find refreshing lemonades from Lemonaid, cold tea’s from ChariTea, great glass water bottles from VOSS and the ‘do it yourself’ Festival Bottle; a bottle that is filled with ingredients to make your own liquor, all you have to add is the alcoholic beverage. The table with the post cards, calendars, planners and note books is one of our favorites and also the wall filled with plates and cups with the wellknown design letters by Arne Jacobsen is a real eye catcher. The assortment at INCONCEPT changes regularly and this is a huge force of attraction for visitors, who are drawn in by all the new items they see when they walk by.
The INCONCEPT store is light, spacey and has an industrial character that perfectly fits the creative processes that take place here. From the eatety upstairs you can look right into the shop on the ground floor, but the work area’s in the back and in the basement are a little more hidden from the public. This way the entrepreneurs can work undisturbed while visitors can enjoy their shopping spree.
Although INCONCEPT is located at this spot for two years already, it’s officially a pop-up store. Luckily it seems like we can enjoy its presence for a little while longer, but you never know. So go!
